About MultiLiLiTrans
Many structures of European societies follow a monolingual paradigm, which does not reflect their multilingualism and superdiversity.
Through the academic lens of literary multilingualism and broadening its application to characterise societies and understand societal challenges, this COST Action MultiLiLiTrans fills this gap. Enhancing academic and societal awareness of the importance and impact of multilingualism in our societies equals fostering social, cultural, scientific, and economic equality and fairness and preventing marginalisation, racism, and unequal access to societal infrastructures.
The COST Action ‘Literary multilingualism and social transformations in superdiverse societies’ (MultiLiLiTrans) is an innovative and robust network between academia, practitioners in education and artistic communities, with the core aim of mainstreaming multilingualism in all its diverse aspects in European contexts and beyond.
The COST Action highlights:
- The strength of literature as a medium to respond to current societal issues such as inequality, precarity, marginalisation and racism as highlighted by this COST Action.
- The importance of visibility of multilingual and superdiverse structures in society (i.e. education, research, literary fields and beyond) and the innovative perspective offered by multilingual practices to address societal issues, which this COST Action recognises.
- The bottom-up approaches in the COST Action structure with non-academic and academic partners from nearly every European country, which this COST Action practices.
