Position Summary Applications are invited for the role of Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Theatre in association with the Future Humanities Institute, and the UNICArt Thematic Line of UNIC.eu. UNICArt is the Arts/Culture/Creativity thematic line of the European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition. Within UNICArt, In this post, you will work with Project Lead Dr Yvon Bonenfant of the Department of Theatre, UCC, and Director of the Future Humanities Institute, in the context of the ten UNIC member institutions, to develop transversal applications of artistic research methodologies within and outside the artistic sphere. For more information on UNIC, see http://www.unic.eu. While this post engages with the UNIC consortium, you will be firmly based at UCC in Cork, Ireland. You will: survey, assess and compare and contrast the range of methodological frameworks currently understood as being part of: : ‘AR’ (artistic research), PaR (practice as research in the arts or practice-research), performance as research, research-creation, the ‘artistic sciences’, arts-based research, embodied/somatic artistic research, related, artistically -focused, hyper-qualitative methodologies, across international territories. You will co-develop, co-pilot and assess participant responses to doctoral and post-doctoral training in this range of methods and in related artistic approaches for those both inside and outside of artistic disciplines. You will co-develop, co-pilot, and assess the usefulness of adaptations of artistic research methodologies that might be transversally applied in various master-level and professional training contexts. You will co-develop synthetic arguments and assess the effectiveness of artistic approaches inside a range of Futures Thinking and Speculative Thinking community-engaged research contexts within UNIC, which may include participation in UNIC’s CityLabs and in the Imaginatorium model being piloted by the University of Malmö and shared across the UNIC Framework. Your work will be done in an intercultural and inter-institutional context and will require an interest in intercultural communication, intercultural understanding, and concept-sharing. The work will include some travel within the UNIC consortium (which includes the Universities of Oulu, Malmö, Zagreb, Liège, Łódź, Deusto, Koç University, Ruhr University Bochum, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and UCC. Availability for occasional travel will be required. This post may appeal to candidates who have formally construed research experience that has applied some of the range of artistic research methodologies to making research-integrated experimentalist art projects that explore strategies for audience engagement and attitudinal change; to those engaged with artistically-derived futures thinking; to those interested in artistic methologies and educational approaches generally; to those interested in the refined educational applications of concepts within Artistic Research to other disciplinary frames including the social sciences, sciences, business, education, the humanities Candidates will be prioritised: who can evidence backgrounds where participatory arts processes, socially engaged arts processes, group ‘devising’ (compositional or dramaturgical process in any discipline, but which most often occur in theatre/dance/live art), or rigorous social practice are a core focus; where strong communication skills and interpersonal skills have been at the fore; where transformative/activist intentions animate the work; and/or where transdisciplinary collaboration have been core to your process. Competency in one or more languages other than English may be valued, but is not required for the post. This position is 0.8 FTE, meaning the position will be a 4-day week and the salary will be 80% of the advertised salary.
