Access Info
Where the Waterford greenway meets R911. Plenty of paid parking nearby. There is a collection of fossils on the Walton causeway park stone gates which are easily accessible and fossil-rich slabs on the edge of the bike road next to the water. Please note that the latter fossils appear behind the safety chain barrier and should not be approached closer.
Fossil Info
The building blocks of the Walton causeway park gates are made of grey limestone that contain crinoids and brachiopods. The slabs are grey/bluish in colour and contain brachiopods, corals and a unique orthocone. Orthocones are extinct cephalopodes and very rare in Ireland!
