Biography
Cathal holds a BA in Geography and Sociology, and a MSc in Applied Coastal and Marine Management, both awarded by University College Cork, during which he developed an interest in GIS and Remote Sensing applications. His Masters thesis was focused on structural vulnerability of properties in areas highly at risk of climate change driven flooding.
Research
Cathal’s research experience after education was 2 years as a Research Assistant in the MaREI Centre in the ERI Beaufort Building in Ringaskiddy. This experience consisted of assisting in various projects such as DOORS Black Sea where the UCC team developed and implemented an Erasmus+ styled research exchange program for European early-career researchers in line with Black Sea research goals. Along with this he was also part of a team of technical reviewers for Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) data under the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF). He also contributed to work on the Social Vulnerability Index on the REACHOUT project and to fieldwork for Inchydoney beach under AA-AGORA.
