This event is part of the Department of Government and Politics' seminar series. Art O'Leary is the Secretary General and Chief Executive at the Irish Electoral Commission, An Coimisiun Toghcháin, a new management and oversight organisation for electoral and wider democracy matters. He is also currently Secretary to the 2 national Citizens' Assemblies underway in Ireland - deliberative democracy initiatives set up to advise the government on the crisis on Biodiversity Loss and local government structures in our capital city. From 2014 - 2021, Art was Secretary General to the President of Ireland, acting as Chief of Staff to President Michael D. Higgins. He worked in the Houses of the Oireachtas for over 20 years and was a member of the senior management team with responsibility for Parliamentary Committees, Communications, Information and Broadcasting and Human Resources for an organisation with a payroll of 1,500 people.
