Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery (FESS)

Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) Course is a specialized cadaver training program to enhance the endoscopic surgical skills for ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgeons. This minimally invasive sinus surgery course will take place in ASSERTs high fidelity surgical skills lab. The course will address surgical approaches to treat conditions of the base of the skull, sinus and nose such as inflammatory disease and tumors for example. The operative skills in this course will concentrate on approaches to areas of the proposed anatomy such as the approach to the sella, suprasellar and the pituitary gland (for Hypophysectomy). Other approaches will include the prelacrimal approach to access the maxillary sinus to conduct a medial maxillectomy. A uncinectomy, Middle Meatal Antrostomy (MMA), and an ethmoidectomy will be demonstrated within the nasal cavity and sinuses. Flaps demonstrated during the day include a nasoseptal flap and a pericranial flap. This course will be delivered by a distinguished faculty of national experts, who will share key techniques and clinical considerations.
