Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS), is a surgical technique that allows access to the
proximal and mid-rectum for resection of benign and early-stage malignant rectal lesions. It's a minimally invasive approach that utilises laparoscopic instruments inserted through a specialised port placed in the anus, allowing for local excision of lesions without the need for major surgery to remove the entire rectum for example. The TAMIS technique can also be used for noncurative intent surgery of more advanced lesions in patients who are not candidates for radical surgery. This one-day course is designed for advanced laparoscopic Colorectal and General surgeons who wish to explore TAMIS using the GelPOINT path transanal access platform. The course is led by expert TAMIS surgeons and includes a didactic session and a hands-on workshop using animal tissue. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the current indications for TAMIS, as well as the procedural techniques and instrumentation used. Expert faculty will discuss anatomy as it relates to TAMIS, operative instrumentation, pre-op protocol, anaesthesia considerations, patient positioning and post-op patient treatment.
