Immersive Room
Immersive Room
The Immersive space at the ASSERT Centre in University College Cork (UCC) is a state-of-the-art 360° immersive visualisation environment designed to enhance education, training, and research through cutting-edge digital experiences.
Key Features:
-
360° Projection Room: The space uses Igloo Vision's patented immersive technology to project content onto the walls of a circular or cylindrical room, creating an enveloping environment that surrounds users with visuals and sound.
-
Group Immersion: Unlike VR headsets that isolate users, the Igloo allows groups of people to share the same immersive experience simultaneously, ideal for collaborative learning, team training, and group presentations.
-
Interactive & Flexible: The system can display a wide range of content—from 360° videos and real-time simulations to interactive 3D environments and digital twins. Users can navigate through the content via control panels, touchscreens, or motion tracking systems.
-
Applications in Healthcare Simulation & Education:
-
Used for medical simulation scenarios, surgical training, and emergency response drills.
-
Enables immersive walkthroughs of complex environments (like hospital wards or disaster zones).
-
Supports virtual anatomy, procedural rehearsals, and interdisciplinary team training.
-
-
AV/IT Integration: Managed and maintained by the IT/AV team at ASSERT, the Igloo space is tightly integrated into the wider simulation and AV ecosystem, allowing high-quality audio-visual content, real-time data feeds, and recording/streaming capabilities.
-
Collaborative Innovation: The space is often used in partnership with UCC's academic departments, industry collaborators, and international research projects to explore novel uses of immersive tech in medicine, education, and beyond.
