Research Data Management Thu-10-Nov
10:00 - 12:00
Research Skills Training Room, Boole Library A data management plan (DMP) is a formal document that outlines the management and stewardship of data both during a research project, and after the project is completed. It describes the organization, storage, preservation and potential sharing of research outputs and it is an integral part of good research practice. DMPs encompass a wide range of activities, are an enabling tool for FAIR and Open Data and a requirement of many funders. During this workshop participants will be introduced to the most used DMP templates and the areas that should be addressed in a DMP. Click Here
Metadata for Researchers and Lego for Reproducibility Wed-16-Nov
14:00 - 16:00
Research Skills Training Room, Boole Library Metadata is data about data, and it is a key enabler of FAIR and Open Data. For data to be FAIR the associated metadata must be unambiguous and well described to facilitate the discovery, interoperability and reuse of data. Metadata can be human and machine readable and come in a variety of types depending on the object they are identifying or describing. Metadata can take the form of ontologies, controlled vocabularies and schema but can also include things like file formats, persistent identifiers, licensing and documentation. During this workshop we will hear about the value of metadata to a FAIR data ecosystem, different types of metadata and some examples of metadata standards. We will use Lego to look at the difference between structured and unstructured metadata and how you can use metadata to ensure your data outputs are reproducible. Using the Lego we will look at how metadata is capture, recorded and disseminated and how you can incorporate metadata capture into your own work. Click Here
