Mini Conference in Cork Nov 2011 - abstracts invited

The call for abstracts for this meeting is now closed (25-10-2011)

The first COST Action FA0906 mini-conference will take place on November 23 and 24, 2011 in Cork, Ireland.

This 1½ day mini-conference has a strong focus on UV-induced plant metabolites, and their importance for human nutrition, including:

  • Profiling of UV-induced specific secondary metabolites
  • Profiling of multiple induced specific secondary metabolites
  • Analysis UV induced gene expression leading to metabolite accumulation
  • Post-harvest UV-B exposure and other (multiple) ways of manipulation
  • UV and colour / flavour / taste
  • UV and functional value
  • UV treatment for creating bioactive adds in nutraceuticals
  • UV treatment for designing plant-based functional food

The Scientific Committee is chaired by Prof. Monika Schreiner, while the local organising committee is comprised of Prof. Nora O’Brien and Dr. Marcel Jansen.

The tentative programme includes 2-3 key-note lectures as well as some 13 selected oral presentations. Attendance will be limited to about 25 people to encourage informal discussions.

A general discussion will focus on

  • Which kind of food is demanded by the consumer in future? Which are the consequences for our UV-B research?

We are now inviting abstracts for oral presentations. Established as well as young investigators are invited. If selected, presenters are eligible for part COST reimbursement (EUR 60 per night accommodation [with a max of 3 nights], plus EUR 400 for travel [based on original receipts]). Each presentation should have a specific “metabolic topic” including new results and ideas, and with a final discussion/outlook of challenges and opportunities for ongoing UV-B research and for realization possibilities.

Abstracts can be mailed to the chair of the Scientific Committee, (Schreiner@igzev.de) not later than October 14. The committee will have selected abstracts for oral presentation by October 21.

Registration for the meeting will start early October. A registration fee of EUR 50.- towards the costs of coffees, teas, dinner and lunch applies to all attendees.
