Hitachi announces first commercial CMUT medical imaging array probe

Hitachi have announced what they claim to be the first commercially available ultrasonic array probe based on CMUT technology.

The announcement was made on 20th May 2009 regarding Hitachi Medical Corporation's new "MAPPIE" probe which uses CMUT (capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer) technology to produce a broadband ultrasound array probe for breast imaging. The array probe was also demonstrated at the The 82nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine held over 22nd-24th May, 2009 in Tokyo.
