Note: A member of the Military Wireless Section of the Royal Engineers, Corless died when by accident he ‘fell from a high window in Victoria Barracks, Cork, on Christmas night and was killed instantly’. See II, 27 Dec. 1919. This death appears to have been accidental. Corless was said at the inquest to have ‘had a few drinks but was not drunk’. An RIC sergeant testified that ‘he believed [the] deceased sat on the window and overbalanced’. The coroner’s jury recommended that bars be placed across the window. See II, 29 Dec. 1919.
