Sandra Irwin joined the Office of the Vice-President for Teaching & Learning in 2014 as Project Manager. In this role she leads and supports a diverse range of projects and initiatives to promote excellence and innovation in teaching and learning at UCC. She works to ensure that the work of the OVPTL is internally well coordinated and aligned with UCC policies and the National Strategy for Higher Education. Her current work includes research on teaching and learning; student outcomes; student engagement; teaching and learning space; internal and external teaching related awards; and professional development. In addition she manages the financial resources, outreach and events at the OVPTL.
Sandra graduated with a PhD in Zoology from UCC in 1998 and completed her Project Management training with iPM (Integrated Project Management) in 2008. She has worked in Higher Education in a variety of roles for most of her career and, before joining the OVPTL, she worked as Research Programme Manager at the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences, UCC. In that role she managed a number of large, multi-disciplinary research projects across partner universities, Government Organisations and NGOs in Ireland and the UK. Sandra has more than 40 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored a number of book chapters and published project reports. She has secured considerable funding for independent research projects and outreach events from a number of competitive sources.
