English Language Competence:
The minimum acceptable level of English is 4 in the Vitnemål (examined or final year of school i.e. the same year as the most recent examined subjects) or equivalent English language competence. Guideline Indicative Points Score (IPS) equivalence with Irish Leaving Certificate points:
As a guideline, it is anticipated that the indicative equivalence will be calculated based on the average of the best 7 distinct recognised subjects taken in the final year of school.
The average converts to points as follows
Points Equivalence Table
|Score||IPS examined subjects|
Note: Bokmål NOR1211 and Nynorsk NOR1212 are often both translated as Norwegian but they are, in fact, 2 separate languages both of which are official languages of Norway and as such are treated as distinct subjects.
The percentages of students attaining each average point in the Vitnemål are compared with the percentages of students attaining the various points levels in the Irish leaving certificate and the comparison is determined on that basis. The uneven relationship reflects the distribution of results.
Bonus Points for Maths in 2021
Bonus points of 25 will be awarded for grade 3 in Mathematics VG3 where mathematics is one of the subjects counted for points
Single Sitting: For the purposes of points calculation, examined subjects are taken across the normal three years of the examination. Non-examined are taken from the final (i.e. most recent) year only.
