Submission of Minor Masters Thesis

Minor (taught) Master's 

All dissertation theses are now submitted locally to Schools/Departments and any queries regarding submission of same should be directed your local School/Department.

 

Submission of Major Research Master's Thesis

Candidates presenting for Master's Degrees must be registered students of the National University of Ireland Cork in the session in which they are presenting.

Students who have completed their research and who are not availing of College facilities can register for 'Submission of a Master's Thesis' by submitting an  Application Form for Registration for Submission only of a Master's Thesis to the Graduate Studies Office. 

Deadline dates for thesis submission are available to view by clicking here.  These are strict deadlines and submission after the deadline date will result in the candidate having to register and pay fees for the next academic year.   

Submission

It is the responsibility of the Master's Degree student to notify the Graduate Studies Office of his/her intention to submit at least three months prior to the proposed date of thesis submission. This notice can be done by completing the Intention to Submit Form. Once notified, the Graduate Studies Office will forward an Research Masters Approval of Examiners Form to the Head of Department requesting the name(s) of the Extern(s) and intern examiners. The Head of Department will submit the completed form to the relevant faculty for approval at the next faculty meeting.

When submitting a candidate requires the following:

a) Normally, two soft bound copies of your thesis -- one for each examiner.

b) Completed Research Masters Thesis Submission Form

Submission of an MD Thesis

Candidates presenting for Master of Degree of Doctor must be registered students of the National University of Ireland Cork in the session in which they are presenting.

Submission of a PhD Thesis

The minimum approval time for a PhD is three years full-time or six years part-time.  PhD students are required to register for the minimum period that the student was originally approved for and all current PhD students are required to register for each year until submission.  Deadline for thesis submission of soft bound copies are available to view by clicking here.  These dates are strict deadlines and failure to submit by the deadline date will result in the candiate having to register for the next academic year.

Submission

Deadlines for Research Thesis Submission

Candidate presenting their soft bound copies of their Research Master's and PhD Degrees for examination must be registered students of the National University of Ireland, Cork in the session in which they are presenting. 

 
Deadlines for soft bound copies for research thesis submission

The following are strict deadlines for research thesis submission (i.e. soft bound copies):

  • Students with an April start date, the deadline is Fri 12th April 2013, 5.00 pm 
  • Students with a July registration start date, the deadline is Fri 5th July 2013, 5.00 pm.
  • Students with an October start date, the deadline is Fri 4th October 2013, 5.00 pm.
  • Students with a January start date, the deadline is Fri 3rd January 2014, 5.00 pm

Submission should be made to the Graduate Studies Office, office opening hours are from Mon - Fri, 9.15am - 1.00pm and  2.10pm - 5.00pm.

Easter Closure 2013:  Graduate Studies Office will be closed from Friday 29th March to 5th April 2013 inclusive.  The office will reopen again on Monday 8th April 2013 and theses may be submitted from 8th April for the deadline of 5pm Friday 12th April 2013.

Note: Approaching a deadline date,  particularly January and October, please be alerted to the fact that a lot of theses are submitted the week of a deadline and therefore it may take up to three weeks for your thesis to be processed and sent to the examiners.  You should take this into account when planning your thesis submission and a date for your viva.  However, if you submit in the weeks before the final deadline, your thesis submission should be processed very quickly.

To be eligible to graduate at a conferring ceremony, you must first have submitted your soft bound thesis for examination and following the examination, the examiners will return the Examiners Report to the Graduate Studies Office.  The examiners report must then be approved at Academic Council Graduate Studies Committee meeting, for meeting dates and deadlines for examiner reports click here ACGSC Meeting Dates.
