During this time of unprecedented uncertainty, the Graduate Studies Office would like to reassure all research students that we will do everything in our power to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 disruptions on your studies. We have published a set of FAQs below, to address your questions and concerns, and we will update this page regularly as the situation continues to evolve.

We are available to respond to any query that you would like to raise with us directly. Please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be more than happy to provide all of the help that we can offer. Contact details are listed below.  We also have an appointment booking system in place. 

 

Thesis Submission for Examination 

Can I submit my Intention to Submit form?

 

Yes, intentions to submit will be processed in the normal way during the closure. Full instructions here

Can my Examiners be approved in the normal way?

 

Yes, the appointment of Examiners will be processed in the usual way. 

My research has been affected by COVID-19. Can I avail of a no-cost extension for this time?

Yes, to avail of the no-cost extension you should complete the COVID-19 Extension Request form and return it to

Can I submit my thesis for Examination?

 

Yes, the submission process is electronic, and all submissions must be made online here. Please ensure to upload a Submission for Examination Form along with the thesis, even if all signatures have not been provided by the deadline. 

What if my Examiner(s) requests a paper copy of my thesis? 

 

Examiners who request a paper copy will be informed that there may be a delay in receiving paper copies; they will however receive the electronic copy. 

My viva voce is due to take place remotely. How will this be managed?

Will Examiner Reports be approved in the normal way? 

 

Yes, the Academic Council Graduate Studies Committee is fully operational and is processing examination results as normal.   

Final Thesis Submission (post examination)

 

Will the Covid-19 Pandemic affect my conferring eligibility? The next deadline for the final thesis submission is 16th December 2020, and all submissions can be made online via CORA.  

Registration 

 

 

My research has been affected by COVID-19. Can I avail of a no-cost extension for this time?

My registration is due to expire, can I renew it as normal? 

 

Yes, all students will be able to log into mystudentadmin and register as normal. If you have any problems with registering online, please contact thesissubmission@ucc.ie

 

Can I still apply for a leave of absence during the University closure? 

 

Yes, applications for leave of absence will be processed in the normal way. Instructions here. It is possible that there will be a delay in this process in some cases. 

Can I return from a leave of absence at this time (during COVID 19 pandemic)?

 

Yes, you must email thesissubmission@ucc.ie to confirm your return to UCC. 

Can I submit a request for a change to my registration, e.g. full-time/part-time, Change of Supervisor, extension, change of thesis title? 

 

Yes, applications for changes to registration will be processed in the normal way. Instructions here. It is possible that there will be a delay in this process in some cases. 

How will the assessment of research training modules be facilitated as a result of COVID 19? 

 

You must contact the Module Coordinator for advice on this.

Can I register for a research module for next semester? 

 

Yes, you can register in the normal way. Module registration is now online here.
