Bio
Donna Maria Alexander completed her PhD in the School of English and Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. Her research focuses on Chicana poetry. Her thesis is titled,
Chicana Poetics: Genre and Style in Gloria AnzaldĂșa and Lorna Dee Cervantes. This research has been funded by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, and The Irish Research Council.
Donna became interested in Chicana literature during her undergraduate studies in English. Her focus on American literature led her to undertake a Masters in American Literature and Film in which she completed a dissertation on Chicana poetry. Her doctoral research is supervised by Dr Lee Jenkins (English) and Prof Nuala Finnegan (SPLAS). Donna also teaches on undergraduate modules on Chicana/o literature and American literature, as well as postgraduate modules on digital humanities.
Donna has published her research in the
Forum for Inter-American Research and
American Studies Today. She blogs about her research and experiences as a doctoral candidate on
Américas Studies (
americasstudies.com). She has co-organised a range of conferences and scholarly events based on her research interests.
