Call for Papers: Golden Age Research Symposium

9 Jun 2021

Closing date for proposals: 15 July 2021 (11:59 PM GMT).

Golden Age Research Symposium

Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies

University College Cork

Friday 26 – Sunday 28, November 2021

The aim of the Symposium is to bring together researchers whose work concerns the literature, history, culture, and visual arts of the Spanish Golden Age (1474-1681).

This year, our Symposium is specially dedicated to Dr. Trevor Dadson, who left us last year and who will be deeply missed by all; thus we encourage our speakers to consider presenting a paper on a subject related to Dr. Dadson’s research interests in order that the Symposium become a tribute to his work.

Please, note that this is simply a suggestion, and that the only limitation in terms of topic is that all presentations must be related to the Spanish Golden Age.

The symposium will begin on the afternoon of Friday 26 November and will end at lunchtime on Sunday 28 November.

Exceptionally (and due to the still uncertain situation regarding the pandemics), this symposium will be entirely online this year.

Submissions from faculty, postdoctoral faculty, independent scholars, graduate and postgraduate students will be welcomed. Presentations must be 20 minutes maximum in length, and must be delivered in English.

Individual proposals must contain:

  • Name, institutional affiliation, position or title and contact information of the presenter including e-mail address and phone number.
  • Paper title and abstract (200-300 words).
  • Brief (2-4 sentence) scholarly or professional biography of the presenter.

For Panel proposals (3 related presentations maximum per panel), please, include the following information:

  • Panel general title.
  • Name, affiliation, title and contact information of the Panel chair.
  • Names, affiliation, titles, presentation titles and brief abstracts for each individual presentation (200-300 words each).

All Proposals must be submitted by e-mail to

Closing date for proposals: 15 July 2021 (11:59 PM GMT).

Candidates will receive instructions on how to register for the Symposium once their proposals have been accepted and we have finalized the conference budget. We are trying to keep costs down for our participants and (due to the delivery method), fees will be very low (if any) this year.
