Updates from Head of Department

Dear Students in the Department of Sociology and Criminology

You will have all read the President’s communication on Friday evening 26th September. As he states “the reality is that our society is grappling with a deadly pandemic” and we all have “a vital role to play in our community’s response”. Hence enhanced public protection measures are now in place issued by the government.

It is essential if we are to stem the rise in those seriously impacted by the Covid-19 virus that we follow government /university guidance and instructions. https://www.ucc.ie/en/emt/covid19/

We in the department of Sociology and Criminology will play our part. There will be no face to face teaching (including tutorials, supervisions  and meetings) for the next two weeks. All teaching and learning will be online. We ask that you limit your social contacts in line with government guidance and follow public health measures.

The staff in the department are committed over a long history to teaching, scholarship and supporting you all to be the best that you can be; gain critical thinking skills and graduate attributes towards a positive future. We are a strong and vibrant community of practice.

We have worked hard during the summer months to plan for such an eventuality as this and will support you online to the best of our ability with quality teaching and learning.

Thank you for being good citizens and supporting these measures during this challenging time.

Working together we can ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

We  will provide a further update in two weeks.

Best Wishes and Keep Safe
