The UCC Doctoral Research Showcase will take place this year on 7th June 2012.

Doctoral students across all Disciplines, Schools and Colleges and years of study are invited to showcase their research and talent by communicating their research to other students and staff across UCC and beyond at this year’s Showcase.

The event is open to registered PhD Track, PhD and Practitioner Doctorate students in all years of study.

The aim of the Showcase is to encourage UCC’s research students to develop innovative ways to communicate their research to non-specialists, and to interact with other doctoral students and staff, as well as representatives from external organisations, including industry, employers and cultural bodies.

There are four categories which students can enter within the Showcase, and all presentations must be engaging and aimed at a non-specialist audience.

1. THREE MINUTE THESIS
The three minute thesis category invites participants to explain their research in a maximum of three minutes, using no more than one slide.
Eligibility: Open to registered doctoral students in all years.

2. THE GRAND PLAN
This version of the three minute thesis category is particularly targeted at students in their first year of research, who will explain their research plan and ideas, again in three minutes or less and using one slide and/or props.
Eligibility: Open to registered doctoral students in year 1 only.

3. WAXING LYRICAL
The waxing lyrical category invites participants to explain their research to the audience in a maximum of 10 minutes.
Eligibility:  Open to registered doctoral students in year 3 and beyond.

4. THE CREATIVE MIND
This category is open to both groups and individuals who will explain their research in no more than five minutes using any creative method, e.g., demonstration, dance, poetry, mime, song, video - the choice is yours!
Eligibility:  Open to registered doctoral students in all years.

Total cash prizes of €2,000
