**Student Representative**

College Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) Terms of Reference

The role of the College Graduate Studies Committee is to advise and assist the Head of College in the leadership and management of graduate studies in the College and associated research units. Its specific responsibility is to advise and assist the Head of College and College Council in the fulfilment of the graduate studies aspects of the College Strategic Plan.

The College Graduate Studies Committee comprises one member of each school (or academic unit) in the College appointed by the school, a representative of the postgraduate students, and a chair appointed by the Head of College. Permission for occasional attendance by named alternates may be provided by agreement of the College Graduate Studies Committee.

Members of the College or the wider University may be invited to attend for specific agenda items at meetings of the College Graduate Studies Committee in order to provide advice and assistance.

Working within the general organisational structure of the College, in particular acting as an interface to Schools, to the University, and to the other Colleges, the remit of the College Graduate Studies Committee includes

• Working with academic units to develop and implement the strategic plan for graduate studies
• Drafting policies and procedures to support graduate recruitment
• Drafting policies and procedures to support and enhance graduate education
• Acting as an interface between the College and the office of the Dean of Graduate Studies
• Advising on the enhancement of the working environment for graduate students
• Monitoring, implementing and inputting into national policy for graduate studies
• Providing oversight of graduate admissions, examination of research degrees, supervision and examiners reports
• Publicising and promoting graduate education to the wider community including engaging with all stakeholders (industry, national policymakers, etc.)

The College Graduate Studies Committee reports in the first instance to the College Management Team and through the College Management Team to the College Council.
