UCC hosts unique food conference, entitled "Innovation in Irish Food & Drink : Past, Present and Future"

Innovation in Irish Food & Drink

Organised by food historians Dr. Chad Ludington (Marie Curie Senior Research Fellow/School of History) and Regina Sexton (Adult Continuing Education/School of History), the conference featured food historians, food geographers, food scientists, business leaders, food producers, restaurateurs, and food writers in an unique mix.

The topic of food production and consumption is a pressing global issue with special relevance in Munster, and this represented a prime opportunity to host a conversation on the area. In particular, as UCC is situated in the self-declared ‘Food Capital of Ireland’ and linked to pioneering academic programmes in Food Science and Food Business, it provided a strong position to host a conference addressing the broad field of food studies. 

 

Speakers at the event included Prof Alan Kelly (UCC Food Science), Prof Thia Hennessy (UCC Food Business), renowed Irish chef and writer Darina Allen and John McKenna, of the famous McKenna Guide.
