UCC Host 1st EEN AgriFood Summit
UCC, with the support of the UCC-Teagasc Alliance, was proud to host the 1st EEN AgriFood Summit on May 17-18th.
This 2 day conference event, which hosted +120 attendees, was organised in conjunction with UCC by two partners from the European Entreprise Network; Enterprise Ireland and InvestNI. With the current food landscape in Europe evolving daily, with threats like Brexit and food fraud coming to the fore, this represented a fantastic opportunity for businesses to interact and learn from leading experts. The event consisted of an initial tour of the UCC Food Processing Facilities, which include the bakery, brewery and meat packaging areas, followed by a "Taste Cork" canape reception featuring fabulous local produce from Hedermans, On the Pig's Back and Munster Brewery.
The following day featured a number of excellent national speakers discussing resources available to food-focused SMEs including a highly engaging talk from Ken O'Connor of the Supervalu Food Academy. In addition, a case study discussion from Peter Hannan, of the award-winning Hannan Meats, and an overview on global food trends from Chris Brockmann of Mintel provided attendees with information and tools to prepare their businesses to develop in the Food market.
Overall, the event recieved highly positive feedback and the organisers hope to create an annual conference.
