26 Jan 2022Professor Dimitra Psychogiou, a global expert in RF front-end technologies has been appointed to the position of Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the School of Engineering and Architecture. She will also assume the role of Head of Group for Advanced Radio Frequency (RF) Technologies at the Tyndall National Institute.

Building Bridges with Recycled Wind-Turbine Blades
21 Feb 2022UCC researchers are behind the construction of a striking new 'blade bridge' that crosses the soon-to-be-opened greenway between Youghal and Midleton, Co. Cork. The bridge is just the second of its kind in the world. The blades used in the project were decommissioned from a wind farm in Belfast avoiding nearly 800 kilograms of CO2 emissions that would have occurred if steel girders had been used. Re-Wind, the research network that spearheaded the project, is a collaboration between the MaREI research centre, UCC, and partners in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United States.

New website for UCC's Natural Collections
02 Feb 2022A new website showcasing UCC's natural collections has been designed to share these extraordinary specimens to a wider audience. The collections are housed within the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) and the digitised specimens form part of a vast zoological and geological collection, over 5,000 in total, used as teaching aids and displays to foster a love of learning and an appreciation for our extraordinary natural world.
