Springboard Funding 2012 for SCM Programmes

22 May 2012

‌Springboard Funding is to be allocated to up to 36 students across Supply Chain Management programmes, UCC.

An exciting new Government initiative 'Springboard' has been launched to help the unemployed.  The scheme will provide fully funded part-time education and training opportunities for people who are unemployed but looking for work while also allowing them to keep any unemployment benefits they are eligible for.

University College Cork  (UCC) is one of the participating universities and will offer nine courses in total, including: Certificate/Diploma in SCM (Years 1 & 2) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management (Lean SCM Black Belt).

Dr Seamus O’Reilly, Academic Director of Supply Chain Management programmes said UCC was delighted to be associated with the Springboard initiative.  According to Dr O'Reilly: "The University has designed its successful Supply Chain Management programmes to accommodate the needs of those who have been made redundant. These UCC programmes seek to maximise the participant’s previous relevant work experience by providing a structured approach to the key elements of supply chain management, e.g. improve supply chain efficiency and effectiveness; enhance process design, customer services and information services; and provide all organisational functions with an acute awareness of costs and the ability to enhance value-adding activities".

Each programme is part time and adopt a blended learning format (classroom and online delivery). Given the mix of Irish-owned and multinational companies exporting from Ireland this is an area of growing employment.  SCM graduates work in various functions including: customer service, procurement, planning, inventory management and logistics.
