Overview guidance for researchers, research support staff & postgraduate researchers

  • Permitted access to research facilities includes desk-based research/write-up areas and office work.
  • Fieldwork  (non-human studies) and human-based studies (Research at Interface with Society or Volunteers on Campus research) are also permitted.

Postgraduate Research Students

  • Liaise with your supervisor to discuss returning to campus-based research.
  • Liaise with your supervisor if you wish to undertake Fieldwork (non-human-based), human-focused research or if you wish to undertake international travel for research purposes. Your supervisor must take the necessary steps to compile the necessary Covid-19 Response Plan documentation (and gain approval if required from Head of School/Unit).

Postdoctoral/early-career researchers and research support staff

  • *Note research studies refers to fieldwork (non-human focused research), human-based research (Research at Interface with Society/Volunteers on Campus research).
  • Prior approval from Head of School/RICU Director is no longer mandated by the Research Business Continuity Team for access to campus for research, undertaking research studies, or international travel for research - prior approval requirements to be decided upon at a local level, ie prior approval may be deemed necessary by local Heads (Schools/RICUs), and in some instances Heads of Colleges, for certain research activities.
  • Researchers/staff returning to campus/resuming research activities/studies should liaise with their PI/manager.
  • Liaise with your PI/research manager if prior approval is required locally for research studies and/or international travel.
  • All studies Covid-19 Response Plans must continue to be drafted/updated/maintained.
  • Postdoctoral researchers/research staff may be required to draft/contribute to the Covid-19 Response Plan documentation for their research study, see Guidelines for Human-Focused ResearchGuidelines for Fieldwork and Guidelines for Travel for Research
