Professor Anita Maguire elected to Royal Irish Academy

UCC's Professor Anita Maguire, Vice-President of Research and Innovation, Director of the Analytical and Biological Chemistry Research Facility and Co-Principal Investigator in the national Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre, was recently elected to the position of Vice-President of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA).
In addition to leading an active research team in UCC focusing on synthetic organic and pharmaceutical chemistry, Professor Maguire has also been an Adjunct Professor in the University of Bergen since 2011.
The RIA is Ireland's leading body of experts in the sciences and humanities and was established in 1785. The RIA focuses on identifying and recognising Ireland’s world class researchers, supporting research through scholarships and promoting awareness of the role science and the humanities play in enriching and benefiting the lives of everyone in society.
Membership of the RIA is received through election by its members and is considered to be one of the highest academic honours in Ireland. Professor Maguire, who has been a member of the RIA since 2014, has been part of the Physical, Chemical, and Mathematical Sciences Committee and will now progress to the position of Vice-President of the RIA.
