The Lead Sponsor has convened a cross-university working group of Academic and Professional Services Staff.

Outcome

Exam timetabling will be optimised to meet the needs of students and staff and may lead to the elimination of autumn examinations.

Current Status

Autumn examinations: Benchmarking against best practice is underway. A paper will be brought forward for consideration in Q4 2019.

Exploration of examination scheduling systems, complementary to current and future technological capabilities, is underway.

Timelines & Targets

  1. Explore in tandem with key support stakeholders such as the SU, SREO, B&E and Student Systems Administration, the feasibility (e.g. physical space and IT systems capabilities) of timetabling examinations such that they occur biannually in May and December only: Underway
  2. Explore and articulate with Academic and Professional Services Staff in UCC and benchmark the pedagogical (as well as practical) reasons for/against such a re-structuring. Underway
  3. Q2 2020: Decisions made.
