Sandra Irwin

Biography

Sandra Irwin joined the Office of the Deputy President and Registrar in 2018 as Project Manager. In this role she supports a diverse range of projects and initiatives to support the ambitions of the Office. She works to ensure that the work of the Office is well coordinated and aligned with UCC policies and with national and international policies on Higher Education.

Sandra was formerly a marine biologist, and graduated with a PhD in Zoology from UCC in 1998. She completed her Project Management training with iPM (Integrated Project Management) in 2008. She has worked in Higher Education in a variety of roles for most of her career and, before joining the Office of Deputy President and Registrar, she worked as Project Manager in the Office of the Vice-President for Teaching & Learning, and before that as Research Programme Manager at the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences, UCC. In those roles she managed a number of large, multi-disciplinary research projects across partner universities, Government Organisations and NGOs in Ireland and the UK.

Sandra has more than 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored a number of book chapters and published project reports. She has secured considerable funding for independent research projects and outreach events from a number of competitive sources.
