Áine is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, having joined UCC in 2004. She is a registered mental health nurse and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Trinity College Dublin and a MSc and PhD from University College Cork. She is Director of Teaching and Learning at the school and led the School's Athena SWAN committee to gaining its first Bronze award in 2020.
Áine leads the Mental Health and Well-being research cluster in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Her research interests focus on young people's mental health, with a specific interest in positive mental health, self-harm and coproduction of research and education with mental health service users. She has published over 60 peer reviewed papers and supervises a number of research students undertaking MSc, and PhD degrees.
Áine is currently the chair of ENGAGE an Interdisciplinary Clinical Mental Health Research Network at UCC. She sits on the International Scientific Committee for the European Conference on Mental Health and on the editorial board of Issues in Mental Health Nursing.
