Peter is a Specialist Registrar in Public Health Medicine and a PhD Scholar on the Wellcome-HRB Irish Clinical Academic Training (ICAT) Programme. He graduated from Medicine in UCC with First Class Honours in 2010. He worked in clinical medicine and paediatrics before entering Higher Specialist Training in Public Health Medicine. He holds Masters degrees in Global Health (Karolinska Institutet, 2012) and in Public Health (University of Cambridge, 2014), as well as Membership of the Faculty of Public Health UK (MFPH, 2015), and the Faculty of Public Health Medicine Ireland (MFPHMI, 2017). He has gained wide-ranging experience in public health and health protection to date, working in regional departments in the UK and Ireland, the Department of Health, National Cancer Control Programme, and UCD School of Public Health (CSTAR). His PhD is focusing on the long-term risk of maternal renal disease after adverse events in pregnancy, in collaboration with the Irish Centre for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research (INFANT) and Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. He also maintains a clinical commitment to the Department of Public Health, HSE-South.
