Liverwort Riccia fluitans found in County Cork

Liverwort Riccia fluitans found in County Cork PhD student Darren Reidy recorded the uncommon liverwort Riccia fluitans in a pond in Watergrasshill, Co. Cork, while collecting water samples and surveying the flora. [caption id="attachment_200" align="aligncenter" width="660"] Riccia fluitans (Cork) liverwort Riccia fluitans as found in Co. Cork with Lemna minor and Lemna minuta.[/caption] Darren was monitoring for the presence of invasive alien aquatic species as part of his PhD project when he made the discovery. Identification was confirmed by bryophyte expert, Dr Rory Hodd. Rory also confirmed that the record was the first for the species in Cork, Ireland.
