Congratulations to our recent MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems graduates

4 Mar 2014

On Friday 28 Feb 2014, the graduation ceremony took place of the MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems at the School of Pharmacy UCC. This year, eight people graduated from the programme. Six students, Jurgen Mifsud, Claire O’Sullivan, Marie McDonnell, Aisling Gilligan, Stephan Henken and Stephen Keane were conferred with a Masters in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems. Two students were awarded Postgraduate Diplomas. All graduates are in full time employment within the Pharmaceutical Industry.

This two year programme is recognised by various EU Regulatory Authorities as fulfilling the educational requirements for Qualified Person (QP) status as defined in EU legislation.

One of the MSc graduates, Jurgen Mifsud, completed this distance learning programme whist working full-time in a Pharmaceutical company in Malta. Through the use of blended learning and e learning technology travel to UCC is kept to a minimum. Jurgen travelled to UCC four times over the two year programme to attend the QP workshops. A Memorandum of Agreement is in place between the School of Pharmacy in UCC and the Examinations Department in Malta, thereby allowing our Maltese students to sit their end of year exams in an examination centre in Malta. As part of this programme, students are required to sit a QP viva exam in second year. Jurgen completed this part of the exam in Malta via webinar.

Following completion of this programme, Jurgen has been approved to act as Qualified Person by the Medicines Authority in Malta. This is a testament to the growing reputation of this course to deliver a programme which meets internationally accredited standards. There are currently three students from Malta enrolled in the MSc programme.
