Pharmacy Annual Prize-giving Ceremony Friday 28 October 2016
The 10th Annual Pharmacy Prize-giving for the 2016 graduating class took place in the Cavanagh Pharmacy Building, Friday 28 October 2016, just prior to student graduation.
Professor Stephen Byrne extended a warm welcome to parents, graduates and staff. The representatives of organizations who had donated prizes were thanked for their support and their continuing generosity was noted and appreciated by all.
The prizes presented were:
The Cloyne CarePlus Pharmacy Prize for the Most Improved Student over the BPharm was presented by Ms Mary Nolan on behalf of Mr Dermot Twomey to Maire Dillon. Mr Twomey and Cloyne CarePlus Pharmacy have been supporting the Most Improved Student Prize since 2007 and this award is valued by students and staff alike.
Abbvie Prize for excellence in Pharmaceutics was presented by Dr Mairead Dunne, Abbvie Cork to Tessa Cagney. For the second time Abbvie have sponsored a student prize for excellence in Pharmaceutics. The School appreciated the support of Dr Dunne, Site Director who attended at the School today for the presentations.
Prize for excellence in Clinical Pharmacy was presented by Dr Suzanne McCarthy of the School of Pharmacy to Tessa Cagney.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry prize for excellence in Pharmaceutical Chemistry was presented by Prof Stephen Byrne to Kyle Malone.
Pharmacology prize for excellence in Pharmacology was sponsored by the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and presented by Prof Thomas Walther to Tessa Cagney.
The School of Pharmacy Medal for top student in the BPharm degree was awarded to Tessa Cagney and was presented by Professor Stephen Byrne, Head of School.
Two nominations for the Dr HH Stewart national prize were forwarded for consideration. This is a national competition based on the results of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

The winner of this prize will be announced in mid-November.
The School also presented two prizes under the heading of Exceptional Citizen and Future Leader.
Kyle Malone served as student representative on the School of Pharmacy Board. He was also Auditor of the Pharmacy Society.
Niamh Harrington was class representative for some years, a role which takes up so much time and effort but she stayed on that journey and was always so positive and passionate in her approach.
The School has been fortunate in the support it has received over the years from various quarters with respect to acknowledging students’ achievements.
