The Pharmacy Ball

25 Feb 2011

Just when the college's social calender year was beginning to grind to a halt, students at the School of Pharmacy were pulling out their glad-rags in anticipation of the annual Pharmacy Ball. Excitement was palpable around the Cavanagh building for the proceeding fortnight with everyone trying to finalise tickets, outfit and general arrangements. Behind the scenes, the UCC Pharmacy Society were busy preparing for their biggest and most subscribed event of the year.

From 6.30pm on the evening of Friday February 25th, The Cork International Airport Hotel found itself ablaze with youthful energy as 250 students descended to enjoy an evening of socialising, dancing, wining and dining. Proceedings got under way with a champagne reception in the funky lobby of which is one of Cork's newest hotels before the attendees were summoned for dinner. A delicious three course meal was followed by a Pharmacy Awards presentation. The "Best Newcomer" as well as the much coveted "Fabulous Pharmacist" awards were amongst those awarded on the night.

By ten o' clock the dancefloor was teeming with bodies, each throwing their best shapes in time to the music of Cork band, Jobless. Their two hour performance was excellently received, as, equally, were the musical choices of the DJ who followed thereafter.

Without a doubt, the night, providing a well deserved break from study demands to all students, was thoroughly enjoyed  by those in attendance.
