The 34th Schools of Pharmacy research seminar

4 Apr 2012

The 34th Schools of Pharmacy research seminar was held at the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd April 2012. The conference was kindly sponsored by Actavis and the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU). It was attended by over 90 postgraduate students and academic staff from the University of Ulster, Queen’s University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin, Royal College of Surgeons and University College Cork.

The 2-day event was a great success with 19 oral presentations and 70 poster presentations, covering a diverse range of disciplines within pharmacy. An extremely high standard of presentations made the judging process a very difficult one; however the prize for the best poster presentation was presented to Ashley Davison from Queen’s University Belfast, for her poster entitled “Characterization of the RALA Peptide as a Vector to Deliver RUNX2 siRNA”. The prize for the best oral presentation was presented to Laura Sherrard from Queen’s University Belfast, for her presentation entitled “Characterization of antibiotic resistance determinants in Prevotella species isolated from patients with Cystic Fibrosis”. A very enjoyable social event was held on the Monday night, with a dinner at the Imperial Hotel Cork.
