New Publication on Pharmacy and Medicines Law in Ireland
UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy officiated at the launch of a publication “Pharmacy and Medicines Law in Ireland” on May 18th 2011. This publication is edited by Professor Peter Weedle and Ms Leonie Clarke both of whom have very strong associations with the School of Pharmacy, UCC.
Opening with a detailed account of the historical development of Irish pharmacy and medicines law, this practical text covers all aspects of current pharmacy and medicines law in Ireland, including the landmark Pharmacy Act of 2007. It also addresses key topics such as the pharmacy disciplinary system, liability of pharmacists in negligence and defective products and the advertising of medicinal products.
Published by Pharmaceutical Press, this book has chapters written by three UCC School of Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacy Practice staff, Drs Stephen Byrne, Suzanne McCarthy and Laura Sahm. Although aimed primarily at Irish pharmacists, pharmacy students and those coming to practise in Ireland from other countries, this new text will be a valuable reference source for lawyers, government bodies and anyone who wants to know more about the regulatory framework for pharmacists and medicinal products in Ireland.
Professor Weedle and Ms Clarke have been at the forefront of some of the developments in UCC’s School of Pharmacy. UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy launching this book said, “I am delighted to be associated with the launch of the book. During the long battle to establish this School, Peter and I always envisaged that the School, as it matured, would produce publications such as this, which are of such high calibre.”
