Fifth Annual Pharmacy Prize-giving

The Fifth Annual Pharmacy Prize-giving for the graduating class, which was once again generously sponsored by the Bank of Ireland, took place on Thursday 16th June in the Aula Maxima.  Professor John Higgins, Head of the College of Medicine and Health was welcomed by Professor Peter Weedle, and a warm welcome was extended to parents, graduates and staff.  The representatives of organisations who had donated prizes were thanked for their support and their continuing generosity noted and appreciated by all.  

The prizes presented were:

  • The Cloyne Pharmacy Prize for the Most Improved Student over the BPharm was presented by Professor Higgins to Sonja Bliessen
  • Activis Prize for overall excellence in Pharmaceutics was presented by Ms Irene Sheehan, Marketing Director, Actavis Ireland to Maria Donovan
  • McNeil Prize for overall excellence in Clinical Pharmacy Practice was presented by Mr Barry Allen from McNeil to Maria Donovan
  • School of Pharmacy Medal for top student in the BPharm degree Maria Donovan was presented by Professor Julia Kennedy

The addition of the Activis prize this year was very much appreciated and the School of Pharmacy would like to acknowledge Actavis Ireland for their generous sponsorship of this prize, and in particular to Ms Irene Sheehan, Marketing Director, for taking the time out to present this award.  Mr Barry Allen was also present from McNeil Pharmaceuticals who have been supporters of research and student activities since the establishment of the School and their continued interest in and support of the School through Mr Allen is greatly appreciated.   Cloyne Pharmacy have also been supporting the Most imporved Student Prize and this award is valued by students and staff alike.
