Centre Overview

Since its inception in 1991, researchers at PERL have developed systems that have enabled the control and efficient utilisation of electrical energy across a wide range of industrial, commercial and domestic applications, with a particular focus on power electronics.

The centre performs academic, industrial and collaborative research, developing concepts into prototypes and pursuing innovative solutions to open questions in the field. Several products and international patents have resulted from this activity.

The Power Electronics Research Laboratories (PERL) at University College Cork is a specialist research centre dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and expertise in the use of electrical energy from point of generation to point of use.
