About Peer Support

What is UCC Peer Support?
UCC Peer Support is a service which offers support to first year students and international students as they make the transition to life in UCC. The programme was piloted in 2009 and for the last decade it has supported thousands of students as they embark on their studies in UCC. Each student meets their Peer Support Leader during their orientation day and can remain in contact with them throughout the year. Your Peer Support Leader will greet you at orientation, give you a tour of the campus and show you what life at UCC is all about. Your Peer Support Leader is available to contact at any point during the academic year should you have any questions or worries relating to life in UCC. Peer Support Leaders can meet with you and listen to any worries you may have. This can be a one off meeting or regular contact that can be maintained throughout the year.
What does a Peer Support Leader do?
The role of a Peer Support Leader is to be a friendly face to greet you on your first day in UCC and to act as a point of contact for you during the year. You can email them at any time during the year if you have any questions about how life in UCC works or if you find that you are struggling with any aspects of student life.
A Peer Support Leader is there to provide practical, emotional and social support to students as they adjust to life in UCC. Your Peer Support Leader can speak with you via email or meet you in person and listen to you around any concerns or issues you have. This is all done in a friendly and non-judgmental manner.
UCC Peer Support is a confidential service and your Peer Support Leader won't judge you or tell anyone else about concerns or questions that you disclosed to them. We are there to LISTEN, INFORM & LINK. We will listen to your concerns, if we can inform you of practical information we will do so and if we feel a specific university service would be best placed to help you we will link you in with them.
Nothing is too small to ask or talk about.
Who is my PSL?
If you are a first year or international student you will have been assigned a Peer Support Leader who will email you at least once a month on your student email. If for any reason you have lost your PSLs contact details and you need to find them you can do so HERE.
