Pictured L to R; Three visiting lecturers from Tarragona, Spain, MªJesus Montes Muñoz, Dr Harry Gijbels, Dr Maria Jimenez, Mª Antonia Martorell Poveda, pictured with Dr Harry Gijbels from the School of Nursing and Midwifery
The School was visited this week by three lecturers (Dr Maria Jimenez, MªJesus Montes Muñoz, Mª Antonia Martorell Poveda) from the Department of Nursing, Universitat Rovira I Virgili (URV), Tarragona, Spain. The visit was in the context of the bilateral Erasmus agreement the School has with the Department of Nursing at Universitat Rovira I Virgili (URV). The visit was, in part, in preparation for the first student exchanges later this year with 2 UCC nursing students undertaking a 3-months’ placement in Tarragona, and 2 URV nursing students coming to Cork to do likewise. The lecturers met with the 2 UCC nursing students during their visit. They also met with various lecturers and undertook a number of visits to health service facilities in Cork. They also made a brief presentation at the School meeting. The visit will hopefully lead to collaboration in the areas of research, teaching and curriculum developments. Maria’s interest is in ethics and emergency care. Antonia has an interest in anthropology and elderly care. Jesus is a midwife, and has a specific interest in home/natural births. Talking to the lecturers towards the end of their stay, it seems that common interests had been identified with various lecturers in the School. I would like to thank all those who contributed this week to make their visit such a success.
