PhD Student establishes first chapter of International Nurses Society on Addictions.
A group of Nurses who have an interest in the specialism addictions and related services in Ireland have established the first international chapter of the US based International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA) http://www.intnsa.org/. The chapter foundation was initiated by UCC PhD student and Mental Health Nurse Peter Kelly.

In conjunction with our colleagues in the United States, the Ireland Chapter of IntNSA has developed comprehensive governance structures and has a dedicated board in place with seven members all of whom are members of IntNSA. It is envisaged that in time this chapter will become a part of a global network based on the five WHO regions. Developments are advancing in several other European countries and further afield to establish chapters of IntNSA.
The Ireland Chapter Board is comprised as follows:

The IntNSA vision is: 'To be a global leader in addictions nursing'
The IntNSA mission statement is: 'To advance excellence in nursing care for the prevention and treatment of addictions for diverse populations across all practice settings through advocacy, collaboration, education, research and policy development.'
The Irish organization shall be known as the Ireland Chapter of the International Nurses Society on Addictions. The purpose of the Chapter shall be to support the mission and vision of IntNSA and promote quality-nursing care for the addicted person. It will serve as a meeting ground for nurses that are interested in the problem of addiction in order that they may enhance their knowledge, advance their skills, and continue their education. We welcome the opportunity to work with other organisations and individuals who share our objectives.
Active membership shall be open to registered professional nurses who are concerned with or engaged in the practice of addictions nursing. Active members may vote and hold office in the Ireland Chapter.
Associated membership shall be open to persons other than registered professional nurses who are concerned with or engaged in the practice of addictions nursing. Associate members may not vote or hold elective office.
An open meeting will be held in Dublin during October and details of this will be advertised on drugs.ie in due course. All interested persons are welcome to attend with a view to contributing to the future direction of the organisation or just finding out more about The Ireland Chapter of IntNSA.
