Generosity of First Year Intellectual Disability and General Nursing Students
The students raised over €300 for two charities in Cork
In October 2016, the first year intellectual disability and general nursing students, as part of their module Promoting Health, Supporting Inclusion - the Potential Contribution of Nurses to the Care and Support of People with Disabilities- NU1058, were privileged to listen to two guest speakers, Mr Tony Heffernan founder of the Saoirse foundation and Bumbleance Ambulance Service & Mr Paul Ryan from the Irish Wheelchair Association. Mr Heffernan shared his story of his experience of caring for his 2 children who died at a very young age of Battens Disease while Paul spoke about full and active life since acquiring a physical disability at the age of 17. Both men spoke so eloquently and students were moved by their personal stories. Subsequently the students raised over €300 for two charities, the Bumbleance Ambulance Service Cork Rebel Wheelchairs for young children with disabilities in Cork.
