First student graduates from the Doctor of Nursing Programme.

Patrick Cotter, pictured above, who works as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Emergency Nursing is the first graduate of the Doctorate of Nursing Programme. 

The first student graduates from the Doctor of Nursing Programme, Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork

In 2010, the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork began a post-Master’s, Doctor of Nursing degree programme. The Doctorate in Nursing is a professional doctorate. This new and innovative programme was developed and established by Emeritus Professor Geraldine McCarthy. It was the first programme of its kind in the Republic of Ireland in 2010. The programme is completed in three years of study. Twenty eight students are currently enrolled on the programme.  The programme curriculum prepares nurses to function as advanced leaders in clinical, academic and health policy contexts.

Patrick Cotter who works as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Emergency Nursing is the first graduate of the Doctorate of Nursing Programme. Patrick believes that in completing the Doctor of Nursing Degree programme he is equipped “to function at an advanced level not only within the profession or at its interface with other healthcare stakeholders but within the healthcare community itself”.  

Patrick’s graduation took place in University College Cork on the afternoon of Friday, 28th February 2014.
