Angela is a member of the Research Network ‘Sociology of Health and Illness’ and was able to attend sessions on topics such as The Politics of Healthcare and Illness Management, Medicalization and the Social construction of Illness, Unequal and Diversified Healthcare Societies, Sociological Perspectives on Obesities, Health Inequalities and Ethnic Minorities, Gender Perspectives on Health and the Body, Physical Health and Health Inequalities, The Impact of Global Crises on People’s Health, Normative Discourses of ‘Food Health’, Sociology of Mental Illness, Sociological Research on Unhealthy Habits and many others.
She presented her research on Thursday 27th in a session entitled “The Effects of Neoliberal Policies on Healthcare Systems and Illness Experiences”. http://programme.esa12thconference.eu/presentation/2577
Her paper entitled “Health Inequalities and Neoliberalism: Corrupting the Gift and Breaking the Social Contract” was received very well and prompted a number of very interesting questions. A number of interested researchers sought to speak to Angela after the presentation and contact details were exchanged for the purpose of future collaborations.
Many thanks to the UCC School of Nursing & Midwifery Staff Research Travel Award for making attendance at this conference possible.
