Cultural Competency in Nursing - University of British Columbia, Vancouver
Visit to the School of Nursing at UBC in March-April 2017
Dr Angela Flynn, Lecturer in the School of Nursing & Midwifery, is preparing for her visit to the School of Nursing at UBC in March-April 2017. The School there hosts a number of research centres, including the Critical Research in Health and Healthcare Inequities (CRiHHI) centre. The CRiHHI offers an intellectual space to draw together those interested in critical inquiry regarding health and health care inequities. Their purpose is to foster a vibrant and supportive research environment for students, faculty and others engaged in such inquiry.
The focus of the collaboration with Professors Judith Lynam and Annette Browne will centre on an exploration of cultural competence and cultural safety among Canadian and Irish
undergraduate nursing students, and an examination of the theoretical approaches to, and the pedagogical strategies for, developing cultural competence/safety in nursing curricula.
Dr Angela Flynn was successful in her 2016 application to the College of Medicine and Health Research Travel Bursary which has funded her visit to the CRiHHI at UBC.
