11 Apr 2019
The NUI Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Medical Scholarships and Prizes are offered in a range of subject areas and disciplines across Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, and Health Sciences. The awards in Nursing and Midwifery and other Health Sciences are based on the submission of examination materials of students and nominations by Faculties, Schools and Departments. For further details please see http://www.nui.ie/awards/undergraduates.asp
Three students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC were awarded with the Dr H H Stewart Scholarship in the categories of Midwifery (Claire Cronin), Children’s Nursing (Bronagh Nevin) and General Nursing (Sarah Ann Twomey). At a beautiful ceremony in the Round Room at the Mansion House in Dublin, the three high achievers were presented with their awards by the Chancellor of the NUI, Dr Maurice Manning. The Dr H H Stewart Scholarships and Prizes are among the oldest awards to be offered for competition by the National University of Ireland. Following a bequest from the estate of Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart, these awards were initially presented by the Royal University of Ireland from 1888 until its dissolution in 1908. Since then, they have been offered by NUI; they are currently awarded in 26 separate medical and health science subjects. You can read more about these awards here: www.nui.ie/awards/undergraduates Heartiest congratulations to Claire, Bronagh and Sarah Ann from all of us in the School.
