Homebirth Research

NPEC researchers are using the home birth audit data to explore a variety of issues related to both planned community birth and normal physiologic birth. Research questions include:

  • How far from the maternity hospital can a woman's home safely be for the planning of a home birth?
  • Does the maternal pushing position affect the degree of perineal laceration?
  • What are home birth outcomes in Ireland?
  • Are home birth outcomes affected by whether or not the woman's GP is supportive of her plans for home birth?
