DAC is the premier event for the design of electronic circuits and systems, electronic design automation (EDA) and silicon solutions.
The PhD Forum at the Design Automation Conference is a poster session hosted by SIGDA for PhD students to present and discuss their dissertation research within the EDA community. It has become one of the premier forums for PhD students in design automation to get feedback on their research and for industry to see academic work in progress. Participation in the forum is competitive and this year only 22 applicants were shortlisted. Some 500 delegates attended the last forum.
The
two UCC participants are:
Tom
English, Energy-efficient Bus-replacement Interconnect for Cryptographic
Accelerators
Dilip
Vasudevan, Automatic Test Pattern Generation For Asynchronous Circuits
This achievement is unique to UCC as it is the only European University to have two representatives at the forum. Also, Dilip and Tom are the only representatives of Ireland (the only EU country being represented) in this forum. Their research is sponsored by IDA/Synopsys and SFI, respectively.
The PhD forum is dominated by students from the
leading universities in the USA, while Europe is represented by Ireland (UCC)
and Switzerland(EPFL).
Tom and Dilip are both mentored by Dr Emanuel
Popovici (Director of the Embedded Systems Group) and Professor Michel Schellekens
(Director of CEOL) respectively.
