'Theatre and the Very Young - A Quiet Beauty'  

In this talk Emelie Fitzgibbon, CEO Graffiti Educational Theatre Company, will introduce a range of topics around the theme of working with/for the Very Young (0 - 3 years old) including approaches to the work, a brief history of developments in the field and Graffiti Theatre Company’s work in creating and developing work for this age range. 

Emelie FitzGibbon is founder (1984) and Artistic Director of Graffiti Educational Theatre Company in Cork, Ireland. The company produces a number of substantial theatre tours per year (Primary, Post-Primary, Irish Language Primary and Early Learning), has two established attached Youth Theatre Companies and a wide-ranging Outreach Programme. Her educational theatre productions have been seen not only in Ireland but also in the U.K., France, Sweden, Finland, and America. As an Educational Drama leader, she has worked with teachers and youth leaders in Sweden, Malta, the U.S., Austria, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Korea and the Czech Republic. Her reviews and articles on poetry, Irish Theatre, Educational Theatre and Youth Theatre have been published in a wide range of newspapers, magazines and journals in both nationally and internationally. She has served on the Editorial, Advisory or Review Boards of Theatre Ireland, STET arts magazine, Youth Theatre Ireland, Scenario, IDEA Journal and The Applied Theatre Researcher. As a member of the Executive board, Emelie has been involved with the Youth Theatre Ireland since its inception. Emile was also Chair both of the Irish Educational Drama Forum and the NCCA Committee to introduce Drama as a subject at Junior Cycle. She has worked extensively with New York University’s Department of Educational Theatre and has been six times Course Director of their Irish Study Abroad Programs in Theatre and Youth, based on the work of Graffiti Theatre Company. She has also been Course Director of the InterConnect Summer School on Drama, ELT and Intercultural Education in the Czech Republic. She has served on the boards of Cork Theatre Company, Everyman Palace Theatre, NAYD and Cork Midsummer Festival. Emelie holds a M.A. , B.Mus and HDE from University College, Cork.

She has worked with the Associate Director, Sile Ni Bhroin, to developing theatre for the very young including Blátha Bána, Gile Na Gealaí and Beag Early Years Arts Team.
